Some of you wrote in after my post about Argus and the transition from DCF to Enterprise and asked, “Are there any other options? Do I have to make the switch?”

While many companies will blindly convert from DCF to Enterprise, one has to wonder: if you’re going to go through the work of converting all of your files, and retraining all of your staff, could you use this as an opportunity to install a new system that isn’t made by the Argus people? After all, even though some will argue that Enterprise is better than DCF, that doesn’t mean it’s ideal or perfect for all organizations.

While there are a number of smaller startups out there, there is one competitor that is actually of size, has the backing of an established software company, a real client list, and has a long enough track record that an institution would consider converting over to them. Formerly known as Cougar Software, it is now owned by MRI, an established accounting software company that many of you are familiar with. MRI Investment Management has both a desktop valuation tool, Global Valuations, and also an asset management tool, Asset Management.

If you’re already going through the pain of converting over, or even if you’re not and you just want to see what else is out there, it’s worth checking out.
