Distressed Debt and Real Estate Workouts

In addition to our nationally recognized Excel for Real Estate Analysis and Argus training classes, we're now offering a two day class on distressed debt and real estate workouts.

Our principal, Joshua Kahr, has taught variations of this class for both Urban Land Institute and leading business schools. Now that it’s been field tested, he's offering it through his company directly to the general public in a condensed two day form for industry professionals.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • The business person’s crash course to the legal issues surrounding foreclosure and bankruptcy
  • Financial analysis of distressed real estate deals
  • Financing options for the purchase and refinancing of distressed debt and real estate
  • What are the issues that come up when you’re buying a mortgage instead of “pure” real estate?
  • Strategies for negotiating with borrowers and other lenders who may be either in front of you or behind you in the capital stack

This is a subject that we have a strong knowledge base in. Not only have we consulted for lenders on how to better manage and dispose of their portfolios, we are also investors in distressed debt so we can leverage off our personal experience in the acquisition of distressed debt. Class examples will include actual projects that we have either completed or consulted on.

All open enrollment courses are restricted to no more than 20 attendees in order to maximize teacher to student interaction. Students will also receive a complete set of spreadsheets for all examples and case studies that are discussed in class.

The class was designed by Joshua Kahr, founder and principal of Kahr. Mr. Kahr is internationally recognized as an expert in real estate financial modeling using both Argus and Excel. Over the last seven years, he has taught his Excel for Real Estate Analysis training class for leading institutions including commercial banks, investment banks, private real estate investment firms, REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts), business schools, developers, and government agencies.

The class is $950 per attendee. Attendees do not need to bring a laptop, but we will provide spreadsheets that the student may want to review during class. Other classroom materials will be provided in hard copy form.
