Excel FAQ

What version of Excel should I use?

2003 or 2007 is ideal for the class. While one could take the class with 2000, 2003 introduced a number of enhancements that made the software substantially easier to use. Also, it is rare to find a corporate environment that uses 2000 or earlier.

You will not need a powerful computer to take the class. Any laptop that is three years old or less is suitable for the class.

What is your experience in offering this class?

We have taught Excel and real estate finance for over five years. Our firm has taught both open enrollment and on location corporate training classes for numerous investment banks, commercial real estate firms, business schools, and other organizations. In addition, many of the modules that we cover have also been tested and used in for-credit graduate programs at leading universities.

Who should take the course?

The seminar is designed for students that have at least basic experience using Excel and understand time value of money. While it is possible to take the class with no financial experience, a little experience will be very useful when trying to understand the more complex spreadsheets. In any event, we do review the basic concepts so even if you have minimal experience, you will not be lost.

Anyone who is involved in financial analysis for real estate should take the course. We suggest it for anyone that does not consider themselves to be a real estate finance and Excel exper. Even the most advanced Excel user knows that there are always more tricks and tools to be learned.

What is your cancellation policy?

For a full refund, the registration must be cancelled a minimum of 10 business days prior to the scheduled class. After that date, you will be charged the full cost of the seminar, as the seat cannot be released to another student.

Corporate Training Class

We regularly teach seminars in-house for leading corporations and universities. Our training seminars can be customized to your time constraints and focus. For more information on our in-house training, contact Joshua Kahr at (212) 566-4085 x. 111 or josh@kahrrealestate.com.

The course lasts two days from 9:00 - 5:00. The course is typically held at your location, but we can make arrangements for the course to be held at an alternate location such as a conference center or a hotel. If desired, the course can also be held over the weekend.

By the end of the two day course, we will be able to cover the full range of topics that we cover in the regular class. We are also able to customize the Excel class to a high level and can integrate the course with over preexisting training programs that your organization may already run.
