Three items:
1. Environmental Remediation + Market Analysis = Development Site
2. New ARGUS training dates in New York City and Boston
3. Job Posting for an Intern at Kahr Real Estate Services
1. Environmental Remediation + Market Analysis = Development Site
In addition to running my own practice, I'm a member of an environmental real estate consulting firm called Vita Nuova. We've worked on many high profile environmental assignments including running training seminars for the Federal EPA on brownfield redevelopment for the last three years. We have just produced our first issue of our newsletter - "ReVitalize". I have posted a copy of the newsletter on my web site at:
http://www.vitanuova.net/newsletter/Revitalize5_05.pdf
This issue prominently features a project that I have been working on (it's on page 4). The "Power Enterprise Park" in Power County, Idaho was a former phosphorous processing plant that was recently decommissioned. Vita Nuova was brought in to reposition the property in light of its substantial environmental issues and figure out how to attract new users for the site. My work for the team centered on analyzing the real estate and identifying potential users. In other words, I was doing what any good real estate broker would do, but wouldn't in this case because the site had many issues that prevented it from being sold in a timely manner. This work is on-going.
If any of you know of potential industrial users that would like a site in the Northwest with heavy power, rail access, a lot of water, and cheap labor, let me know. The site's ready to go and we need tenants.
I'd also love to hear about other sites with environmental issues that could use some help getting cleaned up and repositioned. As with everything else in this business, we'll find a way to cut you in for part of the consulting fee.
2. New ARGUS training dates for New York City and Boston
My ARGUS training class in Boston was a success and so I'm planning a return trip. I'm also running my New York City class again in June.
The dates are:
Boston: 6/25 and 6/26 (Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm)
New York City, 6/7, 6/14, 6/21, and 6/28 (6:00 pm - 9:00 pm)
You can read more and sign up at:
http://www.kahrrealestate.com/argustraining.shtml
Also, for those of you that took it before, if you send me a referral that signs up, I'll cut you a check for $110 (that's 20% of the $550 cost). The 20% finder's fee is good for both my Boston and New York City classes.
3. Job Posting: Intern, Kahr Real Estate Services
I'm looking to fill a part-time Intern position (10-15 hours) for my office in Burlington, New Jersey (30 minutes Northeast from Philadelphia).
This is a great opportunity for a bright college student who needs some part-time income this summer (and beyond), and wants to learn about the consulting business and the real estate industry.
The job would entail:
- Creating and managing mailing lists
- Creating and editing mailing pieces. Producing final mailings (printing, folding, stamping, etc.)
- Real estate research and editing of market analysis reports
- Interacting with clients throughout the entire sales cycle (sales, contract negotiation, delivery, and follow-up)
- Creating and editing seminar materials
- General filing and office work
Real estate industry knowledge is not specifically required.
As for the office environment, it's great. It's in a house that's been converted for office use. It's airy with a lot of natural light, and I'm listening to the birds as I write this. This is not a typical job where you sit in a small cube all day.
